The Noor Ouarzazate solar power plant is a world-leading project located approximately 10 kilometers from the Moroccan city of Ouarzazate.  * Noor Station 2: Commercial operations began in December 2018 and have a capacity of 200 megawatts. Like Noor 1, this plant uses parabolic trough technology, but with enhanced thermal storage capacity of up to 7 hours, enabling continued electricity production after sunset.

 * Noor Station 3: It was commissioned in January 2020, with a capacity of 150 megawatts. This station features solar power tower technology, where hundreds of mirrors (receivers) direct sunlight toward a central tower to produce steam and drive turbines. This technology offers higher efficiency and a thermal storage capacity of up to 7 hours.

 * Noor Station 4: This phase uses photovoltaic (PV) solar panels with a capacity of 70 megawatts. This station represents a significant addition to the complex, combining various technologies to ensure maximum utilization of solar energy.

The total capacity of the complex upon completion of its four phases will be 580 megawatts, making it one of the largest solar power complexes in the world. Covering a vast area of over 3,000 hectares, the complex is expected to provide clean energy to approximately 1.1 million people.

Environmental and economic impact

The environmental impact of the Noor Ouarzazate complex is significantly positive, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 760,000 tons annually, reflecting Morocco's commitment to combating climate change. However, there are some environmental challenges, such as the large amounts of water consumed for cooling and cleaning panels and mirrors, which require careful management of water resources.
